Muslim civil servant 'backed fanatic's call to kill our troops in Iraq'

A civil servant has been suspended after appearing to suggest the killing of British troops in Iraq was justified.

Azad Ali, a Treasury official with a high profile among the Muslim community in Britain, could face a police investigation over the remarks on his internet blog.

The 40-year-old, who is married with three children, quoted an interview with an Islamic extremist who says it is his obligation to kill both British and U.S. soldiers in Iraq as they are ' fighters' and 'occupiers'.

Mr Ali posted on the Between the Lines website that he believed there was 'much truth' in the fanatic's remarks.
Mr Ali, president of the Civil Service Islamic Society, attacked the British government and Foreign Secretary David Miliband over what he sees as support for Israel in its conflict with the Palestinians.

He went on to describe moderate Muslims engaging with the Government as 'self-serving vultures, feeding on the dead flesh of the Palestinians'.
Yesterday the Metropolitan Police said that no complaints had yet been received. But a source said Mr Ali could face an investigation.

Mr Ali, who lives near the East London Mosque in Whitechapel, was regarded as a moderate and has worked closely with the police on consultative groups, including on counter-terrorism.
Yesterday, the IT administrator told the Daily Mail that his lawyers were looking at the allegations which first surfaced in the Mail on Sunday.

Tory MP Patrick Mercer questioned Mr Ali's future in the civil service, saying: 'It is extraordinary to me that a civil servant who is meant to be politically neutral should be making these sorts of comments.'
Yesterday the Treasury said: 'HM Treasury takes allegations of this nature extremely seriously and will investigate them thoroughly.'

This morning's stories have a certain sameness to them: Israel ceases fire, and Hamas fires more rockets into Israel. The only ones who will be surprised will be those who believe the mainstream media propaganda -- which, of course, flows from the governments of the West -- that Israel is the aggressor and once Israel stops fighting, the problem will be over. And likewise in this story: a leading "moderate" Muslim in Britain turns out to hold to all the teachings about Islam and jihad that we have detailed so often here. The only ones who will be surprised will be those who believe the mainstream media propaganda -- which, of course, flows from governments of the West -- that the doctrines of jihad and Islamic supremacism are held only by a Tiny Minority of Extremists™ that has twisted and hijacked Islam the Religion of Peace™.
