Michael Adebolajo claims he was injured by five officers who he claims used physical force
Michael Adebolajo, one of two men charged with killing Fusilier Rigby, claims he was injured by five officers who he claims used physical force when trying to restrain him while on remand in 2013.
Justice Langstaff said: "If and when this case comes to trial it will be a great pity to justice and in particular the presentation of the claimant's case if some means were not found to ensure he had professional help.
"If that could be done by public funds, all the better."
Mr Langstaff oversaw the preliminary hearing at the high court in London yesterday related to the killers' claims.
Mr Adebolajo’s took legal action against the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) over claims the incident resulted in the loss of his two front teeth and is seeking £25,000 in compensation.
The extremist claims he suffered “distress, loss and damage”.
The judge stated that the use of physical force had to be justified.
MoJ lawyers stated the five officers are “deeply unhappy” about being involved in the legal proceedings - the judge said that a trial over the claims made by Mr Adebolajo is “a long way off”.
In addition to pursuing taxpayers money while behind bars, Mr Adebolajo has also reportedly encouraged other prisoners to convert to Islam due to his “charismatic” personality.
Mr Justice Langstaff stated: “He forms relationships easily.
“He is charismatic. There is intelligence suggesting that he has had some influence on the conversion to Islam of some individuals.
“There is a large group of people who look up to Adebolajo.”
Lee Rigby, 25, was murdered after being attacked near his barracks in Woolwich in south-east London in May 2013.
Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale were convicted of murder following a trial at the Old Bailey.
Mr Adebolajo received a whole-life jail term while Mr Adebowale was sentenced to life with a minimum of 45 years in prison.
The hearing continues.
