A huge mural containing the line “sex with refugees is jasmine-scented and beautiful” appeared in Shoreditch over the weekend.
Artist Robert Montgomery said that the ‘artwork’ has been ‘grossly misjudged’.
I don’t know how this can be seen as artwork?
For starters it’s promoting sex with refugees, how is promoting sex with anyone artwork?
This is more of a political statement.
Actual refugees tend to suffer high levels of exploitation and rape as it is, I’m sure ‘artwork’ like this doesn’t help.
What do you think of this?
This is wrong on so many horrific levels – not least because refugees (both male and female) suffer terribly high levels of rape and sexual exploitation pic.twitter.com/55UK10gVAV— Jimmy Rushmore (@JimmyRushmore) December 17, 2017
Mr Montgomery tends to display his artwork in public rather than a traditional gallery or museum.
