All pupils' meat will be halal

A SCHOOL where three-quarters of the pupils are Muslim plans to use only halal meat for dinners.

Under Islamic belief meat has to be blessed before being killed by a single cut to the throat. And it cannot be cooked in the same kitchen as non-halal meat.
Governors at Kingsgate primary school in West Hampstead, North West London, say the move is backed by 77 per cent of parents.

But angry mum Jacqueline Gomm said: "I’m absolutely furious. I feel I cannot let this happen.
"We can’t force our culture on someone else because that’s not right. So we shouldn’t have someone else’s culture forced on us."
Headteacher Liz Hayward said: "It is essential that school meals support the wider social realities of our school population.

"A consultation showed this is what the majority of parents wanted."
Muslim Lib Dem councillor Faruque Ansari said: "It’s just the same meat at the end of the day."
Vegetarian and fish dinners are available for pupils who do not want halal meat
