A 33-year-old man in Yarmouth who stabbed his former partner five times causing her to have part of her lung removed was given a sentence to protect the public from him at Norwich Crown Court.
Kurdish Ali Ebrahem had denied wounding Polish Alicia Knapska with intent to cause her grievous bodily harm on November 22 last year. During the trial the court heard how he had stabbed his victim in the body causing her to have a collapsed lung part of which had to be removed later. Ebrahem had told her “I love you so much it's going to finish now” as she got on a bus to go to work. A jury had found him guilty. He had beaten a woman up on three previous occasions. Judge Simon Barham gave him an indeterminate sentence under which he must serve at least four-and-a-half years before being considered by a parole board for release.
He will be on licence for 10 years once he is released.Jonathan Morgans, defending him, said the offence involved specific circumstances.The court heard that in May 2000 Ebrahem was involved in the robbery of a woman in Germany when he demanded a cash card and pin number.Judge Barham told him: “My assessment of you is you represent a threat to women who you become emotionally involved in.”The judge said he was not recommending deportation because of procedural matters.
