A SECOND henchman of Osama Bin Laden was set free yesterday.
He will be held under strict house arrest — at a cost to the taxpayer of £1million a year.
The Algerian terrorist trainer — with proven links to al-Qaeda — can be identified only as “U” for legal reasons.
On June 18 Jordanian hate preacher Abu Qatada, 48, was also released on bail.
Both were freed after the Appeal Court overturned deportation orders. The cases will go to the House of Lords. “U” has been declared a “significant risk to national security”.
The 45-year-old has been in contact with terror mastermind Bin Laden — and has been linked to bomb plots in America and France.
He was also a “senior trainer” in Afghan terrorist camps during the 1990s.
“U” was freed after his lawyers argued there was not enough evidence to bring him to trial.
He had been in prison since 2001 when he was arrested at Heathrow trying to fly to Saudi Arabia on a false passport.
