MORE than £5million of taxpayers’ cash went on lawyers to defend terrorists led by Dhiren Barot, it emerged yesterday.
The eight, who planned to kill thousands in bomb attacks on Britain and the US, got legal aid during their 2006 trial at Woolwich Crown Court.
The Legal Services Commission said: “Our justice system requires that people have legal representation regardless if it is unpopular.”
Barot got 40 years’ jail, cut to 30, and the others 136 years in total after admitting terror offences.
