MPs urge probe on web rant

ANGRY MPs demanded an investigation last night after a new rant by jailed hate preacher Abu Qatada appeared on the internet.

It circulated as the Government announced a new counter-terror strategy.
He spoke of holy war and martyrdom, warned of a new terror threat and branded top-security Belmarsh Jail in South East London “Britain’s Guantanamo Bay”.
The rant, on extremist sites, said: “A new generation of Muslim youth have become enemies.”
Qatada also praised terror doctor Bilal Abdullah — serving life for attempted car bombings in London and Glasgow.

He hailed him “a true man of Islam”.

Home Secretary Jacqui Smith is now facing furious calls for an inquiry.
Tory MP Patrick Mercer said: “The Home Secretary must act immediately to stop this man reaching a global audience.”

Labour MP Andrew Dismore said: “The police should investigate.”
Qatada, 48, is in Long Lartin Prison, Worcs. A Prison Service spokeswoman said: “We are unable to prevent third parties publishing information which claims to be on other people’s behalf.”
