A DAD-of-four who had his ear bitten off in a racist attack in Woking town centre has said he will be ‘disfigured for life’.
The 40-year-old victim was set upon by a group of about 10 men – some of whom are believed to be Asian – when he tried to step in to stop an argument in the early hours of Sunday, August 2.
He had been on a night out with friends and was going to catch a taxi when he saw the row. But when he intervened, he was dragged into the middle of the road, and had part of his ear bitten off by one of the men.
Police are now looking for the men involved in the attack at about 3.20am in Broadway, Woking. They have released pictures of people they want to talk to The victim said: “I am disfigured for life. They can’t re-attach part of an ear because of the human saliva on it. A human bite is worse than a dog bite and is dirtier than a toilet seat with all the bacteria.
“I was in hospital for four days. It is starting to heal nicely, but it will never be the same again.”
Three men have been arrested and bailed – a 25-year-old from Woking, a 25-year-old from Harrow and a 22-year-old from Woking. They are due to return to Woking police station on October 4.
Woking Neighbourhood Inspector Lynette Shanks said of the violence: “This was a senseless, unprovoked attack on a man who was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Surrey Police will not tolerate such racist violence on the streets.”
A week later, early on Sunday, August 9, another man suffered ear injuries in a fight outside a sandwich shop in Chertsey Road. Police say the incidents are not linked, but anyone with information on either incident should contact them on 0845 125 2222.
