Heroic passers-by fought off a would-be rapist after he pounced on a jogger in broad daylight.
Police have stepped up patrols after the attack in Miles Platting this morning (TUES) and urged women out alone to be especially careful.
The man tried to rape the 30-year-old woman as she ran through busy Clayton Vale Park at around 11.45am.
A woman walking her dog and a man also jogging nearby came to her aid after they heard her screams.
The dog walker kicked the attacker repeatedly to get him off the victim before he escaped on a bike.
Police are describing the man as dangerous and have increased their presence in the area.
The man is described as a slim Asian man with light skin, in his late 20s or early 30s and between 5ft 6in and 5ft 9in tall. He had dark, short hair and had scars, possibly acne scars, on both cheeks.
He was wearing a dark tracksuit top and jogging bottoms with gold or yellow embroidery.
Detective Inspector Tanya Kitchen said: “This was obviously a deeply traumatising experience for the victim, and she is being supported by specially trained officers at this time.
“Thankfully she did not suffer any serious injuries, but that should take nothing away from the deeply shocking nature of this attack.
“For such an offence to take place in a busy park in broad daylight demonstrates the danger that this man poses to the public and I would urge all people in the area to be vigilant and consider their safety, especially woman out alone.
“The offender is as yet unidentified and we are appealing for witnesses to this horrific offence or for anyone with information which may assist in identifying him to come forward.
“Our enquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances and we will be increasing patrols in the area.”
Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 5050 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
