Boney M singer’s brother, a convert to Islam, arrested for jihad terror offenses

The brother of the lead singer of Seventies pop group Boney M has been arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences after first being quizzed over the murder of a Syrian-born preacher.
Muslim-convert Burnell “Bernie” Mitchell, 61, was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder on Tuesday by counter terror detectives investigating the killing of Abdul Hadi Arwani.
Mr Arwani, 48, a father of six, was shot dead as he sat in his car near Wembley Stadium last week.
Mr Mitchell, a builder and trustee of the An Noor mosque in Acton, where Mr Arwani used to preach, is the younger brother of Liz Mitchell, the former lead singer of the disco group.

Detectives have been searching his Wembley home. Scotland Yard said: “A 61-year-old man arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder Abdul Hadi Arwani was further arrested on Wednesday, 15 April on suspicion of the commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism.”
Detectives searched the An Noor Cultural and Community Centre mosque on Tuesday. The inquiry is believed to focus on possible tensions at the centre, where Mr Arwani was a founder member and imam between 2005 and 2011. The centre attracted a number of radical preachers following Mr Arwani’s departure.
Mr Mitchell is listed at Companies House as a secretary of the centre, which was bought for £1 million in 2005 by Brickridge, a company he owns.
Mr Mitchell, his sister and their four siblings emigrated to London from Jamaica when they were children. They are said to have been brought up in a “churchgoing” family in north-west London. He is thought to have converted to Islam several years ago and is now known as Khaled. His wife is a former model who wears a hijab….
