Police searched for the man who had been seen on the M60 near Manchester, but were unable to find him
Bemused motorists could barely believe their eyes - when they saw a man PRAYING on the hard shoulder of the motorway.
The unknown man was spotted kneeling on a prayer mat after pulling over on the M60 near Ashton-under-Lyne, Gtr Manchester.
North West Motorway Police tweeted on Saturday evening: “Getting reports of a male praying on a prayer mat on the hard shoulder M60 J23 Ashton-u-Lyne. @HighwaysNWEST en route to advise.”
The tweet was shared 120 times, sparking a flurry of amused responses.
James Shearing wrote: “When you gotta pray you gotta pray.”
Twitter user @poppamitch meanwhile joked: “Could be magic carpet with mobility problems. AA/RAC call out?”
John Bayliss responded saying: “Probably looking for the route to Godalming.”
However police were unable to find the man at the centre of the reports.
North West Motorway Police said: “A search of the area was made and there was no trace of the reported male.”
