Sunderland man charged with ten terror offences

Mohammed Kahar, a 37-year-old man from Sunderland hasl appeared before Westminster Magistrates this morning charged with ten offences under the Terrorism Acts.

Mohammed Kahar is charged with:
  • Five offences under Section 2 of the Terrorism Act 2006 TACT – Dissemination of Terrorist Publications
  • One offence under Section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006 - Preparation of Terrorist Acts
  • Two offences under Section 12 of the Terrorism Act 2000 – Support a Proscribed Organisation
  • One offence under Section 17 of the Terrorism Act 2000 – Terrorist Financing
  • One offence under Section 58 of the Terrorism Act 2000 – Possession of a record
Kahar was arrested in March by officers from the North East Counter Terrorism Unit for offences under the Terrorism Act. He was then arrested for further offences on Monday. The investigation is intelligence led and there is no evidence to suggest that any communities are at immediate risk in connection with this operation.
