Azar Hussain was given 30 months for possessing a prohibited weapon and four months for having a blade in public.
He was handed a further four months for having a second blade in public, to be served concurrently.
The 30-year-old, of Ombersley Road, Birmingham, pleaded guilty to all three charges and was sentenced at Derby Crown Court on Wednesday, September 23.
Police stopped Hussain as he drove along Woodlands Road, Allestree, on the evening of Friday, April 24.
They searched the car and found an electric stun device, disguised as a mobile phone, under the driver's seat and two knives in the glove box.
Hussain was then arrested.
