A Kuwaiti has been convicted of raping a stranger on a riverbank after watching outdoor porn on his phone.
Abdel-Aziz Al-Shamary, who originally came into the country illegally, punched his victim in the nose and then raped her on a grassy bank by the River Skerne after she left a Darlington pub and told another woman: 'Allah's going to get you.'
When he was arrested, the rapist told police: 'Do you know Saddam Hussein? I am Saddam Hussein. I will not talk to you, you are a woman.'
The trial judge said his attitude towards women will be assessed before he is given what will be a 'substantial sentence'.
Bearded Al-Shamary, 21, did not react as the interpreter translated the verdict.
Judge Sean Morris, sitting at Teesside Crown Court, adjourned sentence to allow for a report to be prepared.
Paul Abrahams, prosecuting, said there would be an application for him to be deported once his sentence was served.
A jury convicted him of rape by a majority of 10 to two after deliberating for more than four hours.

Addressing the jury, Judge Morris said: 'It’s clearly going to be a substantial sentence.
'The only issue is whether it is what is known as an extended sentence.

'That is something I need more information about, like a report that covers his attitude towards the female sex.'

Al-Shamary left his victim bleeding before two women saw what was happening and rushed to her aid.

The takeaway worker was arrested minutes after the attack in May.

The rapist had drunk from two bottles of Jack Daniel’s during the evening.

At the police station he claimed to be Iraq's former dictator - who was hanged in 2006 - and refused to speak to a female officer.

He had been watching porn, including outdoor sex, on his phone that evening.

After the case detectives praised two witnesses, Rebecca Wynn and Natalie Curry, who went to the woman’s aid after seeing her covered in blood.

They called 999 and Al-Shamary was arrested near the town’s police station.

Outside court Detective Constable Richard Garrett said: 'As the investigation progressed, it became clear that without their help, we are 99% sure we would never have found him.

'Before this incident he was unknown to us so the chances of finding him were slim.'

His colleague Detective Constable Neil Stannard said: 'I interviewed him three times and he always had a blank face.

'There was a mixture of denials, "can’t remembers" and "no comments".

'There was no emotion.'

He originally entered the UK illegally, living in Middlesbrough, and then moved to Darlington.

By the time of the attack he had been granted to leave remain by the Home Office.

During sentencing, Judge Morris told Al-Shamary: 'It is quite clear that you had a sheltered upbringing in a Bedouin family with very little contact with the opposite sex.

'The idea of having sex outdoors thrilled you as you can see from your pornographic downloads on your phone.

'It is quite clear to me that you have a problem with females and you regard them as lesser beings.

'I am of the view that this was as much about degradation and humiliation as it was about sexual pleasure.

'You terrified her into submission. You were convicted on the convincing and palpably honest evidence of a brave young woman.

'She is still crying every night and living every day with this burden in her mind. I sincerely hope that you will be deported at the half way point.'

Last week, the Kuwaiti national was jailed for 12 years for the sickening assault

“Al-Shamary, 21, entered Britain illegally in 2015 over land. He fought to be allowed to stay and received leave to remain as little as two weeks before the savage assault in May of this year.”
The British authorities let this man, who entered Britain illegally, stay in the country, but banned Pamela Geller and me from entering the country for the crime of telling the truth about Islam and jihad. Meanwhile, Britain has a steadily lengthening record of admitting jihad preachers without a moment of hesitation. Syed Muzaffar Shah Qadri’s preaching of hatred and jihad violence was so hardline that he was banned from preaching in Pakistan, but the UK Home Office welcomed him into Britain.
The UK Home Office recently admitted Shaykh Hamza Sodagar into the country, despite the fact that he has said: “If there’s homosexual men, the punishment is one of five things. One – the easiest one maybe – chop their head off, that’s the easiest. Second – burn them to death. Third – throw ’em off a cliff. Fourth – tear down a wall on them so they die under that. Fifth – a combination of the above.”
May’s government also admitted two jihad preachers who had praised the murderer of a foe of Pakistan’s blasphemy laws. One of them was welcomed by the Archbishop of Canterbury.
Meanwhile, the UK banned three bishops from areas of Iraq and Syria where Christians are persecuted from entering the country.
