One of Britain's most-wanted murder suspects is arrested nearly four years after he fled UK following fatal road rage stabbing of father-of-two

  • Abdulahi Shire, 24, was arrested in Norway earlier this month before extradition
  • He was wanted in connection to the killing of 21-year-old Zakir Nawaz in 2016 
  • Zakir Nawaz suffered fatal stab wounds in Birmingham after a road rage incident 
  • One man has been jailed for manslaughter in relation to the killing of Mr Nawaz
  • Shire has been charged with one count of murder and is due at court today 
One of Britain's most wanted fugitive murder suspects has been arrested almost four years after a new dad was stabbed to death in a road rage attack.
Abdulahi Shire, 24, fled the UK after Zakir Nawaz, 21, was killed in a Birmingham street on September 10, 2016.
Warsame Mohamed, 23, was caught on CCTV helping to kick and stamp on Mr Nawaz following a 'minor road prang'.Shire, who was in the car with Mohamed, then allegedly fatally stabbed Mr Nawaz in the chest after the accident in Highfield Road in Washwood Heath.
Mr Nawaz, who had become a father for the second time ten days before the attack, died at the scene while Mohamed and Shire drove off.
Mohamed fled to Holland but sneaked back into the UK and was arrested after police spotted him walking on the M40 in High Wycombe on January 29, 2017.
The Somali national was jailed for seven years after he admitted manslaughter at Birmingham Crown Court.
A third man, Waseem Raja Azram, 29, was jailed for two years for violent disorder relating to Mr Nawaz's killing.
West Midlands Police and Europol issued an international arrest warrant for Shire, who is originally from Holland.
He was finally arrested in Norway earlier this month.
A police spokesperson said: 'Abdulahi Shire was sought over the fatal stabbing of Zakir Nawaz in Highfield Road, Washwood Heath, on 10 September 2016.
'A European Arrest Warrant was issued shortly after the killing - which had been sparked by a minor road rage collision - and our detectives were working with Europol in a bid to locate Shire.
'The 24-year-old of no fixed address - who is originally from Holland - has now been charged with murder and is due to appear in Birmingham Magistrates Court this morning.'
