Sick extremist caught before unleashing terrible vision, Rudd says

A BRITISH extremist plotted a terror attack this summer after finding out how to penetrate a stab vest by watching online videos, Home Secretary Amber Rudd has claimed.

The extremist, who has not been named, was preparing for the attack with videos that major websites failed to take down.
Ms Rudd, while in Washington DC, said that more than 44,000 extremist websites have been created in 2017 alone.
The Home Secretary also said illegal videos, such as those showing beheadings or how to plan attacks, can still be found online.
Ms Rudd said: "We have to face up to the fact that there is also now an online element to the majority of terrorist plots.
"For instance, this summer we managed to disrupt a plot that involved an individual learning how to get through a stab vest from online videos.
"Luckily he was caught before he was able to fulfil this terrible vision but it was instructive to know where he got his information from."

In addition, Ms Rudd stressed her desire for social media companies to do more to stop an “online arms race” being pursued by terrorists.
The Conservative Cabinet member has called on sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Google to use artificial intelligence to automatically block videos and websites that show ISIS’ black flag.
She also said that returning British jihadis would be arrested upon re-entering the UK if there is evidence of criminal behaviour.
Roughly 800 British extremists are believed to have gone to Syria and Iraq to fight for ISIS.
Ms Rudd said: "We are making sure that where we know they are coming back that we have deradicalised programmes in place and where we have the evidence we will arrest them.”
She also suggested care hire data could be used by the Government to tackle terror attacks where rental vehicles have been used to target civilians.
