Man arrested for ‘making threats to kill while shouting Allahu Akbar’ in Hyde Park

A man was arrested yesterday after making threats to kill people while shouting Allahu Akbar in Hyde Park, he was arrested on suspicion of threats to kill today after also assaulting a woman and shouting Allahu Akbar and threatening park goers.
The incident happened near Speaker’s Corner at 10am on Wednesday 03rd June 2020.
The incident occurred before protesters began to arrive for a Black Lives Matter protests set up after the death of George Floyd in the United States of America. The incidents are not however believed to be connected.
A man was chased through the park by bystanders and intercepted by police.
A passer by said: “He pushed a woman and then shouted Alluah Akbar over and over again. He had something in his hand, it looked sharp. He was chased by bystanders.”
Police at the scene said a man was arrested on suspicion of threats to kill and cannabis possession, officers said that they are investigating whether the incident would become a counter terrorist investigation.
The Met Police said in a statement: “Police were called at 09:46 on Wednesday, 03 June to Park Lane, W1 reports of an assault and a man making threats.
“Police nearby gave chase and detained the man. No injuries have been reported at this time.
“A man, no further details, was arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill, possession of an offensive weapon and possession of class B drugs.
“He has been taken to a central London police station, where he remains at this time.”
