Unmasked: the veiled white Muslim convert whose great grandmother was a suffragette

She was presented by Channel 4 as an authentic - but anonymous - voice of moderate British Islam.
And on Christmas Day the veiled woman described only as "Khadijah" was given a national televison platform for propagating her views in an "alternative Christmas message" designed to rival the Queen's.
She told viewers Jack Straw was wrong to criticise the veil, claiming concealing facial features "liberated" women.
But the Daily Mail can now unveil "Khadijah" - and reveal that she is in fact Elaine Atkinson, an English convert to Islam who travels the country working for a radical muslim group trying to take political control of Pakistan.
And despite her presentation by Channel 4 as a moderate, in the past the 38-year-old has described non-believers as "rats in cages going round on a treadmill" of consumerism, and declares she would like to see Britain's pubs converted into mosques.
Since going through an islamic marriage ceremony with a British-born muslim of Pakistani origin, Miss Atkinson - a fromer radical feminist - has become known as Khadijah Iqbal.
But her rejection of her English roots caused a rift with her family, which has a long history of military and police service.
Her great-grandmother was a suffragette, and her brother is currently serving as a soldier in Afghanistan, she claimed.
Atkinson, a mother of one, was approached by Channel 4 to give the controversial alternative Christmas message after the original veiled woman chosen, Khadija Ravat, a 33-year-old islamic teacher, withdrew because of negative publicity.
Channel 4 said it would be veiling her true identity, along with her face, to enable viewers to focus on her words instead of her personality.
But the story of her rejection of her traditional English background, and her determination to embrace radical Islam, is a fascinating one.
She was born in the army barracks town of Tidworth in Wiltshire in 1968, to father Brian Atkinson, then a crane driver at a military depot, and mother Gillian.
At the time the family was living in police accommodation, because her paternal grandfather Francis was a police constable in the war department.
Atkinson led a normal English childhood, and after being schooled locally without any contact with muslims, left the countryside for London and became a social worker.
But in 1996 she suddenly became interested in the koran, and started attending the Regent's Park Mosque in the centre of the capital.
Atkinson said: "Much to the shock and horror of my family and friends I embraced Islam.
"My friends, family and colleagues were very keen to express their negative views.
"I had always been known as a radical Feminist and had dutifully continued the family tradition of following in the footsteps of my great-grandmother, who was a suffragette.
"Much to my greatgrandmother ’s horror (if she were still here to express it) I was soon to discover that Feminism and Islam went together like oil and water.
"I realised Feminism promoted the very thing it protested against: oppression of women."
Atkinson went on, in an essay published on the Internet for fellow muslims: "When I see large numbers of non-believers I feel very sad for them as they remind me of rats or gerbils in cages going round and round on a treadmill, believing that they are fulfilling their sole purpose in life and reaching their true destiny (which is Argos).
"If only they could uncover their eyes and see the damage they cause themselves and to their children.
"I feel certain that if they were to have a tiny glimpse of what Islam could give them there would be Mosques on every corner instead of pubs."
Atkinson now lives with her husband Dr Zahid Iqbal, 38, who qualified as a doctor at Southampton in 1992, in a £350,000 three-bed house in Barking, east London. She abandoned her English name four years.
She works for the radical Minhaj ul Qur'an group from its UK base at a mosque in nearby Forest Gate - running a "sisters' group" for other female muslims, travelling the country making converts, and broadcasting on Asian local radio stations.
Minhaj ul Qur'an was established in Pakistan, but operates in 92 countries, and aims to convert the whole world in Islam.
In Pakistan the religious group has a political wing - the Pakistan People Movement - which boasts it is "actively working to establish an Islamic state in Pakistan" to ensure "muslims have an international voice and political power to relieve the ongoing oppression and subjugation of muslims around the world".
Atkinson - pictured in a rare unveiled moment when returning home from a shopping trip - last night refused to elaborate on her views.
Contrary to her claims of being moderate, at an Islamic conference in Sheffield this year Atkinson told fellow muslims it was morally wrong to listen to any sort of music, or to watch soap operas. She urged the conference to stop watching any television at all.
In a statement issued through Channel 4, Atkinson said last night: "Minhaj-ul-Quran is a spiritual movement which promotes peace and tolerance of other faiths. It is against all forms of extremism and radicalism whether religious or otherwise."
Atkinson's brother Howard Atkinson, 46, is a soldier. He was last night unvailable for comment - as were their parents, who have moved to Spain.
Atkinson last night insisted that she did enjoy listening to islamic music.

Dirty bomb' police numbers rise

The government is increasing the number of police officers trained to deal with chemical, biological or radiation "dirty bombs", the BBC has learned.
Manufacturers are bidding to supply 12,000 personal protection suits to the Home Office, to be worn by UK police.
Only 7,000 officers - about 5% of the total - are so far trained to deal with such attacks, but the Home Office could not say how many more will be trained.
A spokeswoman said the move was not in response to any specific threat.
She said: "The police are already equipped to deal with a chemical, radiological, biological or nuclear incident.
"Public safety is our top priority and that's why we are committed to ensuring that as technology advances, we will provide the most up-to-date equipment to the police.
"This latest procurement is part of an ongoing process and not in response to any new or specific threat."
The Home Office said the move would mean an increase in the number of officers trained to deal with an attack, but would not say exactly how many.
Home Office Minister Tony McNulty said the figure of 12,000 came from a "guess" at what kind of threat officers could face and an assessment of the cover required nationally and for each police force.
The contract is being advertised on the Official Journal of the European Union website and the deadline for bids was before Christmas.
The Association of Chief Police Officers (Acpo) said the purchase of the suits was "part of a sensible, planned investment programme".
And Jan Berry, chairman of the Police Federation, which represents rank and file officers in England and Wales, said she welcomed the supply of new equipment but stressed the importance of ongoing training so police can effectively protect the public.
Conservative homeland security spokesman Patrick Mercer said he was "delighted" by the move.
"It seems strange that they are doing it in December 2006 rather than October 2001," he added.
"It shows very slow appreciation by the government of what the dangers are."
In response to Mr Mercer's comments, Mr McNulty said: "When I've got the marshalled forces of experts and the police on one hand telling me what we need in terms of preparedness, I need to listen to them.
"And I thought it was a rather unnecessary, cheap shot for what's a very, very serious issue."

WHAT IS A DIRTY BOMB?
A crudely-made device that combines a simple explosive with radioactive material
Sometimes called the "poor man's nuclear weapon" but has different impact
Would wreak panic in built-up areas, see large areas sealed off and result in long-term illnesses like cancer .

What if a dirty bomb hit London?

It wouldn't take much for terrorists to wreak havoc in London - just a simple explosive and some industrial waste. Such is the gruesome reality of the dirty bomb.
Fears of a terrorist attack on the UK by Islamic extremists are running at an all-time high.

The discovery of the deadly poison ricin in a London flat has heightened concerns and recently Tony Blair said it was not a case of "if" but "when".
One frightening possibility is the so-called dirty bomb - a crudely-made device that combines a simple explosive with any radioactive material. The idea is that the blast disperses the radioactive material willy nilly.
The dirty bomb is perhaps the least understood of all terror weapons, but new research by BBC Two's Horizon programme brings home the full horror of how a dirty bomb attack might affect London.
We'd have contaminated air moving across London with no indication it's there Graham Smith, Enviros
The dirty bomb is sometimes called the "poor man's nuclear weapon". But whereas the aim of a nuclear bomb is instant and outright destruction, a dirty bomb would have an entirely different effect.
It would wreak panic in built-up areas, see large areas contaminated and closed off and result in long-term illnesses such as cancer, caused by the dispersed radioactive material attacking living cells.
Using sophisticated modelling, experts commissioned by Horizon constructed a scenario around a radioactive material called caesium chloride, which in the old Soviet Union was used in seed irradiating.
Much of this and other radioactive material used by the Soviets is now unaccounted for. No one knows whether it has fallen into unsafe hands.
Experts working for Enviros, a consultancy that advises nuclear authorities around the world, modelled a fictional explosion combining a handful of caesium chloride - equivalent to the contents of one Soviet seed irradiating machine - with 10lbs of explosive.
They then "placed" the fictional bomb in Trafalgar Square.
The blast itself might kill 10 people immediately. As the emergency services arrived at the scene of the incident a few minutes later, they would realise this was no ordinary blast.
"The simple buoyancy of the air that's been heated may carry the radioactive material tens of metres up into the air," says Graham Smith, of Enviros.
Almost immediately, millions of tiny flakes of caesium chloride would be floating in the breeze over London. In seconds, depending on the direction of the wind, the plume could reach Whitehall. A minute later Charing Cross, then the City and within half an hour radioactive smoke could reach London's suburbs - 10 kilometres away.
"We've got contaminated air moving across London and there would be no indication that contamination was there," says Mr Smith.
Cancer time bomb
As the air began to cool, the particles would fall on people who are completely unaware of the danger around them. They would settle on parks, gardens, pavements and cars.
The worry then is of a cancer time bomb. Every day we are exposed to natural radiation, and in low doses this background level is harmless.
Anyone five km from the blast would face only a tiny increased risk of cancer - one in 1,000 - as the background level would be largely unaffected.
But at one km, radiation doses would rise to six times background level, increasing the risk of cancer by about one in 100. At 500 metres downwind from the blast, the risk of dying of cancer from this radiation exposure would be about one in 50 and at 200 m radiation levels would be 80 times background level, equating to a one in seven increased risk of dying of the disease.
The next challenge would be to deal with the contaminated parts of central London. Any clean-up job would be immense and costly, but left undisturbed the particles could remain harmful for 200 years.
One option might be to abandon or demolish parts of the city.
But perhaps the biggest immediate threat wrought by a dirty bomb is not the destruction or the threat to life, but its ability to stir blind panic among thousands, maybe millions, of people.
A leak of caesium chloride in the city of Goiania, southern Brazil, in 1987 contaminated 200 people. The experience gives a useful template for how other cities might cope.
When news of an attack breaks, there will be a clamour for information and help. People will want to know the extent of contamination, but it can be hard to supply answers.
In the Brazil example, medical services were swamped as a tenth of the city's population queued for radiation screening.
It is the dirty bomb's power to spread fear and spawn chaos that makes it a really effective weapon.

Charity link to Hamas investigated

The Charity Commission has launched a formal investigation into the London-based Palestinian charity Interpal.
The commission says there are "concerns about the potential for indirect and inappropriate links" between Interpal "and organisations or individuals who appear to support the militant or terrorist activities of Hamas".
The announcement follows an investigation last summer by a Panorama programme Faith, Hate & Charity, which said funds from Interpal had helped build support for Hamas.
Interpal has twice before been investigated and cleared by the commission which regulates charities.
Hamas is outlawed by the European Union as a terrorist organisation.
Serious inquiry
In the programme, young girls at a children's charity in Hebron - which Interpal has helped fund - were seen glorifying suicide bombing, encouraged by adults.
Interpal say they do not condone such songs.
Following the programme, the commission said it would assess whether a third formal investigation was merited after analysing evidence supplied by the BBC and seeking a response from Interpal's trustees.
The commission has now decided that the evidence does merit a more detailed investigation than the last one, which they admitted was "not in depth."
The inquiry will be held under Section 8 of the 1993 Charities Act.
A commission spokesman told the BBC that an S8 inquiry was the most serious form of inquiry, giving them wide powers of investigation including the freezing of funds - though at this stage there was no intention of doing this.
The programme showed how Interpal's Managing Trustee Dr Essam Yusuf doubled as the key trustee for a coalition of Islamic charities chaired by Dr Yusuf Qaradawi, who has championed suicide bombings in the Israel-Palestine conflict.
The commission says that its new investigation will include the duties and responsibilities of Interpal's trustees.
Interpal has categorically denied having links to Hamas.
It insists it allocates humanitarian aid mostly to Islamic charities in the West Bank and Gaza, solely on the basis of need.

'Muslim only' pool outrage

A COUNCIL has sparked fury by virtually shutting a swimming pool on Sunday afternoons for "Muslim-only" sessions.
All women are banned — and non-Muslim men may swim IF they follow the strict Islamic dress code of swim shorts that hide the navel and extend below the knee.
Croydon Council in South London runs the sessions at Thornton Heath leisure centre between 4.45pm and 6.45pm.
Similar slots are laid on for Muslim women outside opening hours, where bathers must be covered from the neck down to the ankle.
Locals who flock to the area’s only major leisure centre each week are furious.
Member Daniel Foley, 44, said: "I turned up and saw a sign saying it was closing early for Muslim afternoon — I couldn’t believe it."
Nearby Croydon Mosque defended the move. It said: "Muslims are not allowed to show off intimate parts of their body. This is non-negotiable. Muslims have as much right to go swimming as anyone else."
Alex Craig, 34, said: "I think it is preposterous that a council should be encouraging this type of segregation over municipal facilities.
"It seems the issue here is over modesty. Surely if Muslims want to swim then they should just turn up with their modest swimwear at the same time as everyone else.
"To make a special provision for them is just ridiculous and strikes me as imposing an 'Us and them' mentality which is wrong."
Sarah Fellows, 37, said: "I take my kids all the time but I did notice they had introduced the men-only Muslim afternoon a while back though they've now changed the times as well.
"I am not opposed to swimming sessions divided by gender but I am opposed to sessions divided by religion. How inclusive is that?"
Croydon Council said: "We are keen to ensure sports facilities are there for everyone."
A council has been fiercely criticised for holding ethnic-minority only swimming sessions.
Wolverhampton City Council employs special life-guards and instructors for the sessions, which are open to the city's black and Asian residents only.
It claims the weekly periods are for women and children with "religious or cultural issues which would otherwise prevent them from taking part."
But furious pool-users say they amount to racial segregation and claim they are being prevented from using the pool - simply because they may be white.
The hour-long, Thursday evening sessions at Wolverhampton's Central Baths replace an aqua-aerobics session that was previously open to all.
They are financially supported by Kellogg's Swim Active programme, which has funded the installation of special blinds around the pool, designed to protect swimmers' privacy.
The special sessions started in November and run every Thursday evening. It is not known exactly how many people take part.
Yesterday, swimmer Leslie Waugh, from Walsall, said: "It's wrong. The council bangs on about integration but then does something like this. The women even have their own instructor and lifeguard brought in for the sessions and the regular workers have to leave."
Local councillor Malcolm Gwinnett said: "It's one thing to have an all-women session, that's fine. But it should be all women of whatever religion, not just one religion, which leaves everyone else out in the cold."
Conservative MP Andrew Rosindell said: "This seems to be exactly the sort of thing that creates division and resentment rather than bringing people together.
"I'd like to know what the logic behind this is. It sounds like a pretty bad idea to me and just the sort of thing that councils should not be doing."
A Wolverhampton City Council spokesman said complaints about the scheme had been received by reception staff at the baths.
She said: "It is one of the most ambitious schemes in the country and aims to tackle childhood obesity, engage the city's ethnic minority communities and work with children who fear water.
"An initial trial of eight weeks is providing an opportunity for women and children from ethnic minorities, who may not otherwise participate for cultural and religious reasons."
The Wolverhampton ethnic-minority swim sessions come after leisure centre in Croydon, South London, opened its pool to Muslims only for two hours every week.
Thornton Heath Leisure Centre insist that men wear shorts which hide the navel and extend below the knee. Women wear a swimming costume that covers their body from the neck down to the ankle. There are separate sessions for men and women.
In common with the Wolverhampton plan, the sessions were condemned by local people for encouraging segregation.

Muslims 'refuse anti-MRSA gel'

SOME Muslims are undermining the battle to rid Britain’s hospitals of killer infections by refusing to wash their hands when visiting sick relatives.
Dispensers containing anti-bacterial gel have been placed outside wards at hospitals all over Britain in a bid to get rid of superbugs like MRSA and PVL.
It prevents people bringing in more infections. But some Muslims refuse to use the hand cleansers on religious grounds because they contain alcohol.
Health watchdogs are so concerned they intend to meet with NHS bosses in the New Year to try and hammer out a solution.
NHS care assistant Theresa Poupa, 46, became aware of the situation while visiting a sick cousin at the London Chest Hospital in Bethnal Green.
She said: "I could not believe it - the signs are large enough and clear enough but they just took no notice and walked straight onto the ward.
"I was there almost every day for three weeks and I saw it repeated dozens and dozens of times. When I raised the matter with the nursing staff they just shrugged and said that Muslims were refusing to use the gel because it contained alcohol.
"They said they couldn’t force visitors to use the gel and I understand that — but I was astonished that anyone who didn’t wash their hands was allowed onto a ward.
"I know the dangers that bugs like MRSA can cause. They kill hundreds of patients a year."
Michael Summers, chairman of the Patients’ Association, said: "I have been made aware of this situation during discussions with nurses and it is a very serious state of affairs."
Dr Carol Cooper, who practises in West London and works shifts in accident and emergency, said: "I practise in an area where the patients are largely Bangladeshi and some of them do object to washing their hands because of the alcohol. But it’s fantastically important."
Murray Devine, head of safety at health watchdog the Healthcare Commission, said: "The solution should be ensuring Muslims have access to soap and water. There’s no substitute for good old fashioned soap and water."

London man attacked over wife's Muslim veil comment

RACIALLY-MOTIVATED ASSAULT.

"The victim's wife made a comment directed to her husband that she thought it must be difficult for the woman wearing the veil to see out of it as it covered her face," a police spokesman said.
A British man, whose wife made a passing comment about a Muslim woman's full face veil, suffered a broken nose and lost his front teeth after being attacked and headbutted by the woman's partner, police said on Sunday.
The victim, a 46-year-old white man, was walking through London's Regent's Park with his wife, son and daughter when they passed another family, a Muslim man and his wife who was pushing a baby in a pushchair.
"The victim's wife made a comment directed to her husband that she thought it must be difficult for the woman wearing the veil to see out of it as it covered her face," a police spokesman said.
"The suspect began shouting and returned approximately 10 minutes later on his own and repeatedly punched and headbutted the victim." The man was taken to hospital, suffering from facial injuries including a broken nose and a black eye, but was discharged later in the day.
The police spokesman said the suspect was about 35-years-old and of Middle Eastern appearance and that they were treating the incident as a racially-motivated assault. The attack occurred in mid-November but police were only alerted to the incident last week. News of it comes amid a heated debate about Muslim veils in Britain which politicians say hinder social integration.

lied to again.

After denying that she was going to do it, a Muslim woman wearing a black face mask delivered UK Channel 4’s "alternate" Christmas message after all. (Perhaps she was persuaded to change her mind?) And it’s exactly what you probably expected; a rambling toxic mix of victimhood, self-delusion, and Islamic supremacism.

UK Police Hunting "English Brothers"

And this is only one jihad team out of potentially many: Police hunt for ‘English brothers’ who spent year in al-Qaeda camp.

Police are trying to trace a gang of British Muslims who are thought to have returned to plot terror attacks in Britain after being trained abroad for more than a year by al-Qaeda, Nine Britons, all said to be in their twenties, were among a group of 12 Western recruits groomed by al-Qaeda at a secret camp near the Afghan border to set up new terror cells in London and other Western capitals.
Police do not know the real identities of this gang, who are known as the "English brothers" because of their shared language. As well as nine Britons, they include two Norwegians and an Australian who were smuggled into the Waziristan tribal region in Pakistan in October 2005.
They are believed to have been under the command of an al-Qaeda veteran suspected of training some of the Britons accused of the alleged plot to blow up passenger planes flying to the US from Heathrow airport in the summer. ...
Intelligence sources in Pakistan said that the men are reported to have joined Taleban and al-Qaeda fighters in Afghanistan in attacks on Nato troops. The sources told The Times that the "brothers" were given religious indocrination as well as lessons on how to assemble suicide bomb vests and improvised explosive devices.
The sources are reported to have been escorted to the al-Qaeda camp by Adam Gadahn, a Californian indicted by the US authorities as an al-Qaeda terrorist, who introduced the "brothers" to their tutors.

Muslim veils should be illegal in public, says bishop

Muslim women should be banned from wearing the veil in public, the Church of England's only Asian bishop said last night.
The Rt Rev Michael Nazir-Ali, Bishop of Rochester, called on the Government to introduce new laws obliging Muslim women to remove the veil while travelling or at work. "Given that we are facing an unprecedented security situation, legislation needs to be introduced that allows officials to remove the veil," he said.
The law should cover airports, ports, Tube and train stations, and employers should have the right to demand that the veil is not worn in the workplace, the Bishop said. The comments came days after it emerged that a man wanted in connection with the murder of WPC Sharon Beshenivsky may have fled Britain disguised as a Muslim woman. Mustaf Jama is believed to have escaped detection by wearing a niqab, which covers the face except the eyes.
Bishop Nazir-Ali, whose father converted from Islam to Catholicism, also said that the Muslim community needed to make greater efforts to integrate.

Gunmen who killed WPC were already on bail

Two of the armed robbers who killed policewoman Sharon Beshenivsky were on police bail at the time, it has emerged.
Muzzaker Imtiaz Shah and Faisal Razzaq, both 25, had been arrested by another force on suspicion of firearms offences.
After being questioned, they were freed on bail - never to be heard from again until the day PC Beshenivsky was gunned down on her daughter's 4th birthday.
The blunder was revealed yesterday as the killers were jailed. Further details cannot be reported for legal reasons. Shah and Somalian refugee Yusuf Jama, 20, were each given four life sentences and must serve a minimum of 35 years. They were told they may never be released.
PC Beshenivsky, 38, was shot dead and her colleague Teresa Milburn gravely injured as the raiders fled Universal Express travel agency in Bradford with £5,000 in November last year.
She left behind sons Samuel, 13, and Paul, eight, and daughter Lydia, now five.
Last night her husband Paul, 44, said: 'They are going to rot inside until they are 60 years old.
'That gives them plenty of time to think about what they have done. Every year, on November 18, I hope they think about my daughter trying to have a birthday on the anniversary of the day they killed her mother.'
Shah, who lives in the London area, had admitted murder, robbery and firearms offences. This week Jama was convicted of the same charges.
Lookout Razzaq was given two life sentences for manslaughter and robbery and must serve a minimum of 11 years while his 26-year-old brother Hassan was convicted of manslaughter.
He has not been sentenced yet. When the gang was led out after hearing their fates at Newcastle Crown Court yesterday,
Shah gave a defiant ganglandstyle 'salute' to friends in the public gallery, while Faisal Razzaq thumped his chest and Jama shrugged.
In a bid to secure a lighter jail term, Shah's QC Diana Ellis told the court of his great remorse and desire to visit PC Beshenivsky's grave to say 'sorry'.
PC Milburn, who is back at work, sobbed quietly as her 'impact statement' was read out by prosecutor Robert Smith, QC.
He told the court she had said: 'They could have just threatsionened us with the guns. That would have been enough.'
Sentencing, Mr Justice Andrew Smith said: 'Sharon Beshenivsky and Teresa Milburn were not only doing their duty but went beyond their duty. Both paid for their dedication, Sharon Beshenivsky with her life.'
Jama, of Small Heath, Birmingham, was given permission in 2000 to stay in Britain until 2007.
He repaid this act of humanity by notching up eight criminal convictions for cannabis posses-assault on a policeman - twice - and various counts of burglary and theft.
The Razzaqs, both of Forest Gate, East London, have robbed numerous shops.
Faisal has convictions for dishonesty, deception and robbery, and yesterday he was given two life sentences. Hassan will learn his fate next month.
A fifth man, Raza Ul-Haq Aslam, 25, will be retried after a jury cleared him of murder, manslaughter and firearms offences but failed to reach a verdict on robbery.
The 'architect' of the heist, Piran Ditta Khan, remains a fugitive, as does Jama's brother Mustaf, 26.
He is on the run in Somalia - reportedly slipping out through Heathrow Airport disguised as a Muslim woman in a veil.
Speaking afterwards, PC Milburn said of the attack: 'I can remember every second like yesterday and it is something that will never leave me. It is something I have to learn to live with.
'Sharon was lovely. She was a genuine, caring, compassionate person. She brought these qualities with her every single day. She was a professional, enthusiastic police officer and she made us laugh.'

Top cop backs Sun over veils

BRITAIN’S top cop yesterday backed The Sun’s call for action over the security threat posed by Muslim veils.
Sir Ian Blair said airline passengers must remove headdress covering the face.
The demand came after a suspect in the WPC Sharon Beshenivsky murder case slipped out of Heathrow wearing a niqab, which has just a slit for eyes. Hard-pressed staff only carry out random passport checks. Met Police Commissioner Sir Ian said: "I do not really understand how we can continue to do that. We must find methods of allowing people to take off the veil in a way that’s entirely dignified."
His comments put extra pressure on Home Secretary John Reid to insist all veils are removed for passport checks.
Our campaign was launched on Thursday and immediately drew support from MPs who want an inquiry into how murder suspect Mustaf Jama, 26, fled disguised as a Muslim woman with a stolen passport.
Home Office rules say the eyes, nose and mouth must be visible in passports and that veils can be lifted for checks. But we want checks to be compulsory, with veils lifted in a private area.
The Commissioner called on the Government to "get greater control" of the country’s borders — and deport foreign crooks freed from jail.
Sir Ian also backed The Sun’s campaign for police red tape to be slashed.
He wants the Government to scrap laws that require officers to file unused investigation material for court cases.
He said: "Officers are overwhelmed with paperwork because they have to disclose unused material to the defence. That’s fine in cases of murder, rape and terrorism.
"But it’s ridiculous in simple cases and we just need to pull all that back so I can have my cops back on the street."
Sir Ian claimed the terror threat facing Britain is "far graver" than the Second World War. The danger from al-Qaeda is of an "unparalleled nature — and growing", he said. But he added that police had "no specific intelligence" about a Christmas plot.

Student jailed for West End rapes

A student has been jailed for 10 years for carrying out three rapes in central London.
Amro Mohamed, 21, of Wedderburn Road, Swiss Cottage, London, targeted the two lone women, aged in their early 20s, in Piccadilly last November and December.
He would pretend to offer them free nightclub tickets but instead take them to the St James's Park area, near Buckingham Palace, to assault them.
Southwark Crown Court heard he raped one victim twice.
The women had both been out for the evening in the Piccadilly area and had become separated from their friends as they left a bar or nightclub, when they were approached by Mohamed.
He told them he was a nightclub promoter before leading them off to a secluded area.
Det Ch Insp Tony Nash said: "This man was preying on vulnerable women who had been out enjoying themselves in the run up to Christmas and were on their way home.
"This man was calculating, and manipulative and I am delighted that the sentence reflects the severity of this crime."

happy christmas don.

'Muslim boys' locked up

FIVE members of notorious street gang The Muslim Boys are behind bars for their involvement in a knife attack which left a man dead outside a nightclub.
Charles Anokye, 23, was chased outside and stabbed after he bumped into one of the group inside Mass nightclub near St Matthew's Church, Effra Road, Brixton, on August 1, last year.
One of his killers, Edwin Bamfo, 18, was training for a place in the national sprint squad when he was arrested for murder.
The Old Bailey heard at least five young men surrounded Mr Anokye and he was stabbed 13 times in the chest and back.
After Monday's sentence, Detective Chief Inspector Dave Garwood said: "For many reasons, the trial of the self-styled Muslim Boys was a difficult case to prosecute.
"But, despite the travails and challenges of this trial, they are as nothing when compared to how society, in its widest sense, needs to confront the ethos that made this murder and the others like it possible."
Anwar Hussain, 17, of Gresham Road, Brixton, was convicted of murder and jailed for life with a minimum recommended sentence of 12 years.
Bamfo, of Dunbrook Road, Streatham, and 20-year-old Aaron Roberts, of Chapter Road, Kennington, were jailed for 10 years each for manslaughter.
Rico Tracey, 18, of St Louis Court, West Norwood, and Ben Jatto, 17, of Southey Road, Stockwell, were found guilty of violent disorder and caged for two years and 18 months respectively.
Everald Howell, 18, of no fixed address, was cleared of all wrongdoing at the end of the three-month trial.
The jury failed to reach a verdict on Daniel Brown, 20, of St Agnes Place,Kennington, and a 16-year-old who cannot be named. Both now face a retrial.
All denied murder and violent disorder.

Ahmadinejad: Britain, Israel, US to 'vanish like the pharaohs'

"Oh, and by the way, we're a nuclear power." From AFP,

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has predicted that Britian, Israel and the United States would eventually disappear from the world like the Egyptian pharaonic kings.
"The oppressive powers will disappear while the Iranian people will stay. Any power that is close to God will survive while the powers who are far from God will disappear like the pharaohs," he said Wednesday, according to Iranian news agencies.
"Today, it is the United States, Britain and the Zionist regime which are doomed to disappear as they have moved far away from the teachings of God," he said in a speech in the western town of Javanroud.
"It is a divine promise."

London Braces for Attack

British authorities are warning that a Christmas attack on London by the Religion of Peace™ is imminent.
British intelligence and law enforcement officials have passed on a grim assessment to their U.S. counterparts, "It will be a miracle if there isn’t a terror attack over the holidays in London," a senior American law enforcement official tells ABCNews.com.
British police have been quietly carrying out a series of key arrests as they continue to track at least six active "plots" tied to what they call "al Qaeda of England."
Officials said they could not cite any specific date or target but said al Qaeda had planned previous operations during the Christmas holidays that had been disrupted.
"It is not a matter of if there will be an attack, but how bad the attack will be," an intelligence official told ABCNews.com.
Authorities say they are seeking at least 18 suspected suicide bombers.

Mohammed among top 50 names in UK today

In what is being described as a new sign of the deepening influence of Islam on life in Britain, more and more Muslim parents in the UK are christening their baby boys as Mohammed.
The official count of the babies' names chosen most often last year showed that two different versions - Mohammed and Muhammed - were in the top 50 picked by parents.
Mohammed, the most common variant of the Muslim Prophet's name, was the 22nd most popular name for boys. And, the alternative spelling Muhammad entered the list of the top 50 names for the first time, becoming the 44th in the chart.
The rise of Mohammed as a name in the UK is an indicator of growing numbers of Muslims in British society in recent years, reported the Daily Mail, and added that there were 3732 boys named Mohammed or with one of seven other variants of the name in 2000. Last year there were 4532, and this year 5936, a rise of nearly two thirds on the Millennium year.
Numbers have been growing as a result of continued immigration from Pakistan and Bangladesh as well as waves of new arrivals from Islamic countries or countries with high Muslim populations in the Middle East and Africa, including Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia and Nigeria.
Recent immigrants have swelled the Muslim population of around 1.6 million counted by the last national census in 2001. An analysis published by analysts at the Government's Office for National Statistics (ONS) earlier this year showed that new migrant families tend to have children a few years after arriving in Britain, after taking time to find work and settle down.
The increasing popularity of the name may also reflect deepening loyalty to their faith among Muslims. The ONS breakdown of this year's popular names showed yesterday that Muhammed is the fastest climber in the top 50 chart.
The most common boys' name was the same that has topped the list for the past 12 years: Jack. There was, however, a new favourite for girls, Olivia, up from fourth in the rankings last year. Grace was also an increasingly popular name, up from seven to two in the table, and Ruby shot up to number four from number 15. (ANI)
Just a correction---the article was set-up to make us think Muhammed is the most popular name in England, when actually it only surpassed "George" in popularity. Muhammed is the 22nd most popular name for boys in England.

Muslim Council of Britain Head Compares UK to Nazi Germany

The head of the Islamic radical front group
calling itself the Muslim Council of Britain, Muhammed Abdul Bari, says that Britain
is well on the way to becoming just like
Nazi Germany:

A senior Muslim invoked Hitler’s 1930s Nazi regime while attacking the Government over its treatment of British Muslims. Mr Bari drew compared the Government’s treatment of Muslims with the Nazis’ persecution of Jews.
Muhammed Abdul Bari accused ministers of stigmatising Britain’s Islamic community and fuelling xenophobia.
Mr Bari, the head of the Muslim Council of Britain, criticised the Government for "unfairly targeting" Muslims, and said that it was undermining their status as "equal citizens". He warned that blaming extremism on "a small, largely deprived community" leads to a "deterioration of community cohesion and fuels xenophobia".
In a presentation to MPs, Mr Bari went so far as to ask: "What is the degree of xenophobia that tipped Germany in the 1930s towards a murderous ethnic and cultural racism?" ...
Mr Bari also rejected Tony Blair’s call for Muslims to do more to fight terrorism. He put the responsibility squarely at the door of the Government.
He said: "The attempt to place the problem on one doorstep is unfair and counter-productive." He blamed the "relentless barrage" of anti-terrrorism laws, labelling them "hastily formulated responses masquerading as policy".
Mr Bari later said: "Politicians have failed to consider underlying causes of Muslim disaffection and have reacted hastily by over-legislating."
Bari is extremely eager to paint British Muslims as the "new Jews" of Nazi Britain. Yet he and his organization feel no compunction at all about dishonoring the millions of real Jews murdered by Nazi Germany.
He also defended the council’s controversial decision to boycott Holocaust Memorial Day. ...
"The MCB would be honoured to participate in such a commemoration provided it gave equal respect to the innocent victims of all genocides around the world. But we cannot accept that some people are more worthy of remembrance than others purely on the basis of their religion."
Mr Bari ended his speech by calling for a "social contract", officially defining the "rights and obligations" of every British citizen. He hoped this would help Muslims who are unsure of what the Government means when it asks them to "integrate" into society.
Yesterday, Mr Bari said that he did not recall the exact phrases he had used during the speech. But he said: "We know what happened in Nazi Germany and we have to be on guard against entire communities being demonised due to the actions of a minority."

WPC killer fled UK in a veil

A man at the centre of an anti-terrorist hunt in Britain is alleged to have escaped capture by evading surveillance officers after disguising himself as a Muslim woman dressed in a burka.
The revelation is a new twist to the intense debate sparked by former Foreign Secretary and Commons Leader Jack Straw over whether Muslim women in Britain should wear a full veil.
The burka is a head-to-toe garment, which often conceals the entire face, with the wearer seeing through a fabric grille or eye slit, and is suspected by some immigration officers to have been used previously in cases of benefit or identity fraud.
But it is never previously been known to have been used by a man hunted by the police in the UK to evade capture.
The man, who was wanted in connection with a major anti-terrorist investigation, was subsequently arrested by police in Britain after a Europe wide search.
Specific details of his identity, where and how he was held or what he is charged with cannot be revealed for legal reasons.
He is one of more than 90 suspects currently in British prisons awaiting trial on terror charges.

is this a muslim women or a ruthless killer?
Islamic extremeists, including suicide bombers fighting British and US troops in Iraq, are known to have dressed in burkas to evade capture or to launch attacks.
Women bombers are also known to have worn full Muslim dress to board planes with explosives strapped under their clothing.
The Muslim Council of Britain has raised fears that Mr Straw's comments may fan the flames of Islamophobia.
Secretary-General Dr Muhammad Abdul Bari said: "There can be no doubt that we are already witnessing an increasingly bigoted anti-Muslim climate being fostered in Britain.
"Recent weeks have witnessed several arson attacks against mosques and assaults on Muslim individuals around the country. Jack Straw's comments will hardly help."
On Friday, a Muslim woman had her head veil snatched by a man as she waited at a bus stop in Liverpool, in what Merseyside police are treating as a 'hate crime'.
The alleged use of a burka by a fugitive to avoid capture will further fuel the furious debate over the veil sparked by Mr Straw.
Shahid Malik, Labour MP for Dewsbury, warned the case was a highly unusal use of Muslim dress.
"If this is true then it is the first case of its kind in Britain and an isolated incident," he said.
"We must not get hysterical. There have been many hundreds of cases where robberies have been committed by men wearing women's stockings on their heads - but no one is talking about banning stockings.
"The important thing is that police and the security service should feel comfortable and confident about stopping anyone they have suspicions about, whatever they are wearing."
BBC newsreader George Alagiah added his voice to the arguments yesterday by suggesting Muslim women may need to get rid of their veils if they want to go into politics.
The presenter and author told an audience at Cheltenham Literature Festival: "We should ask people who wear the veil what they themselves think of the veil.
"We should apply the test of contribution. People can wear the veil but they too need to subject themselves to the test of contribution.
"Are there things I can do and still wear the veil? Could I become an MP or get my message across if I wear the veil?
"If they still want to try they may need to amend the way they appear."

Gang leader 'incredibly violent'

Muzzaker Imtiaz Shah
Muzzaker Shah was cleared of attempting to murder Pc Milburn

The most dangerous member of the gang which killed Pc Sharon Beshenivsky was Muzzaker Imtiaz Shah from London.

Police say Shah, 25, was hand-picked to carry out the armed robbery in Bradford because of his ruthless nature.

Detectives believe he was part of a notorious London gang - Thug Fam - and had a distinctive five-star tattoo on his arm, in keeping with other members.

The officer who led the investigation, Det Supt Andy Brennan, described Shah as "extremely dangerous".

He said Shah was "incapable of distinguishing how precious life is and has the ability to kill again in the future."

Most violent

He also described him as "incredibly violent", adding: "Put a gun in his hand and he becomes very dangerous, very unpredictable."

Police say the robbery was carefully planned and involved up to seven different men, three vehicles, two guns and a knife.

But of all of those involved, detectives pinpointed Shah, who admitted murder, robbery and firearms offences, as the most violent.

Yusuf Jamma
Yusuf Jamma was found guilty of murder, which he had denied

Yusuf Abdillh Jamma, 20, from Small Heath, Birmingham, also had links with the Thug Fam in London, and had the same tattoo as Shah.

He told the jury he shot Pc Beshenivsky - but insisted it was an accident.

But jurors found him guilty of murder and firearms offences, and he admitted robbery.

Mr Brennan described him as a "cunning, evil criminal".

He added: "He (Jamma) only had one motive in mind - which was money."

Jamma was the first man to be arrested, a week after the robbery.

Key figure

He was questioned by police about an unrelated matter, when a quick-thinking officer recognised him from 'wanted posters' which had been distributed around the country following the Bradford shootings.

Hassan Razzaq, 26, from Forest Gate in London, was said by police to have been a key figure in planning the robbery.

Mustaf Jamma
Mustaf Jamma is thought to have fled to Somalia

The court heard he made a reconnaissance trip to the scene of the raid five days beforehand. He made a 400-mile round trip from London to Yorkshire in an Audi car.

Faisal Razzaq, 25, from Forest Gate in London, is the younger brother of Hassan.

Police said he was one of the look-outs for the gang carrying out the robbery.

On the run

The court was told his Toyota Corolla was part of the three-car convoy which went from Leeds to Bradford on the day of the robbery.

The two brothers were cleared of Pc Beshenivsky's murder but found guilty of manslaughter and robbery.

Two men, 25-year-old Mustaf Jamma and Piran Ditta Khan, remain on the run.

Mustaf, who is the elder brother of Yusuf Jamma, is thought to have fled to Somalia, where the brothers are originally from.

Mr Brennan said the investigation into Pc Beshenivsky's murder would continue until he and Piran Ditta Khan were caught.

"We intend to ensure that all outstanding suspects are arrested and brought before the courts."

Airline issues a ban on Bibles

A BRITISH airline has banned its crew from taking the Bible into Saudi Arabia for fear of upsetting Muslims.
BMI bosses have told staff they must take the Koran instead.
One middle-aged stewardess is to sue BMI for religious discrimination at an industrial tribunal due to take place in the New Year.
In the meantime she will be excluded from BMI flights to Saudi Arabia.
A BMI source said: "Foreign Office advice is that non-Islamic religious material is not permitted in Saudi."
But another BMI worker said: "We understand our embassy has confirmed that the Saudis never enforce this rule.
"The stewardess is deeply religious and takes her Bible everywhere she travels.
"The bottom line is BMI don’t want to jeopardise the Saudi route, which is worth millions to them."
The ban follows BA’s climbdown on a rule prohibiting staff wearing crosses — which triggered a mass protest.

Muslim dinners for church kids

PUPILS at a Church of England school are only able to eat Muslim meals because of a council ruling.
The only meat on the menu at the primary school is halal — where animals are controversially bled to death.
Children have been eating the meat for up to SEVENTEEN years at FOUR schools in Reading, Berkshire, without parents’ knowledge, the council admitted yesterday. The fact emerged after pupils were given letters from canteen managers to take home.
Islamic law insists on halal meat, produced by slashing an animal’s neck with a single cut. Animals are not stunned beforehand.
Parents are furious at the revelation. One said: "I have nothing against halal meat — especially for religious reasons — but my daughter is Christian not Muslim." Reading Borough Council admitted halal meat had been served at four schools for "several years".
A council spokesman said: "It became clear following the introduction of the new school catering contract with Scolarest that some parents might not be aware.
"Letters have been sent home. We are increasing options and offering fish each day."
Scolarest said: "We provide halal meat in four Reading schools at their request

Iranian cleric: "Regarding Blair's devilish remarks, I am telling him that if he means Iran is a threat to Britain, yes we are.

Iran is not a threat to Middle East stability but it is a threat to the United States and its European ally Britain, a hardline cleric said on Friday.
The mid-ranking cleric's remarks came in reaction to British Prime Minister Tony Blair, who on Tuesday called Iran a "major threat" to the region's stability.
"Regarding Blair's devilish remarks, I am telling him that if he means Iran is a threat to Britain, yes we are," Ahmad Khatami told Friday prayers worshippers in Tehran University.
"If he means we are a threat to America's arrogance, yes we are and we are proud of it."
Khatami, who is not related to the reformist former President Mohammad Khatami and does not hold any positions directly related to policy-making, said the United States, Britain and Israel caused instability in the Middle East....
"They (the international community) will face consequences for not stopping this wild and brainless animal," he added, referring to the Israeli premier.

Muslim gun cop gets the chop

THE Muslim gun cop who refused to guard the Israeli Embassy was yesterday removed from an elite protection unit.
Alex Omar-Basha also had his firearm certificate confiscated and was put on unarmed duties.
The 24-year-old dad of two has been on "compassionate leave" since October — when The Sun revealed how he refused to guard the Israeli embassy in Kensington, West London.
PC Omar-Basha objected to being posted at the Israeli mission on moral grounds because of the bombing of Lebanon in the summer.
He said he was afraid of being spotted outside the Israeli embassy in case his family in Lebanon was targeted.
The officer was married by extremist Islamic cleric Mohamed Omar El-Bakri, who is a friend of his wife’s family.
Omar-Basha has been given an undisclosed posting elsewhere.
A Met spokesman said: "These decisions were taken following careful consideration of the officer’s circumstances."

Girl raped in street attack

A 13-year-old girl has been snatched off the street and raped, police have said.
The youngster was walking along a street in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, on Sunday afternoon when she was attacked.

The girl had left a Texaco garage on Bury Road in the Bamford area of the town at around 2.45pm.
She saw a man standing in a back alley off the road, who minutes later caught up with her before pushing her to the floor then raping her.
The girl eventually managed to struggle free and fled.
Detective Chief Inspector Jeff McMahon, said: "The victim has obviously been traumatised by this attack and the CID team are working hard to catch the person responsible.
"Whilst this is a nasty offence, I wish to reassure members of the public and the local community that this is a rare event."
The suspect is described as an Asian man in his early 20s, with a shaven head and a beard

Muslimah held in English cell for terrorism

A Dutch Muslimah as been arrested in the UK on suspicion of involvement in terrorism. Her Syrian English husband the 27 year oldYassin N. has been behind bars since May 30th. British justice officials are accusing the Moroccan Muslimahof keeping silent about her husbands terrorism plans. Which is a crime in the UK since 2000.
According to prosecuters Bouchra had written a letter in which she rejoiced in her husbands martyrdom plans for jihad. She also glorified her own martyrdom and was prepared her to sacrifice her 1 year old son Mohammed. Her lawyer said she never intended to engage in terrorism and her glorification of holy war only had 'poetic' meaning.
Investigators searched her home in Eindhoven and the home of Bouchra's parents. The couples apartment in London was also searched. The police confiscated her husband's laptop and found a martyrdom letter. The couple was arrested on May 30th at Luton airport. The woman was released. She was rearrested on September 7th. The trial against the couple will begin 2007.

Muslims 'face barriers' over sport

The 2012 Olympic Games in London is expected to provide a big boost for sport in the UK.
But there are still barriers to taking part in some communities, despite plenty of interest.
The Olympic games, coming to the British capital in 2012, continues to have an enormous impact on east London.
Huge areas of waste land have been cleared to make way for a state-of-the-art stadium and Olympic village, slum housing has been refurbished and property prices are booming. But is everyone getting excited about sport?
Not according to the organisation Sport England which encourages nationwide participation of sporting activities.
Its figures show that Muslim women are significantly less likely to take up exercise compared to other groups.
Some 39% of women nationwide do sport compared to only 19% of Indian and Bengali women.
In addition, there are cultural barriers involved in the take up of sport as a professional career option for many Muslims, both male and female.
Sport enthusiast
Eighteen-year-old Raheema from Tower Hamlets in east London explains how she only plays badminton in her backyard, away from prying eyes.
She is not encouraged to do any sport by her family who would rather see her in the kitchen or sewing. She last did sport regularly at school as it was compulsory then.
The last time she went swimming was six years ago when she was 12 years old and before she hit puberty. Raheema says this is because no Muslim girl can wear a revealing swimming costume.
Seventeen-year-old Asha on the other hand, another Muslim girl from east London, is a sport enthusiast.
She loves playing football and has been playing for the past seven years and has the trophies to prove it.
But she knows her days playing the game are numbered. Her mother, father and eldest brother are against her playing.
She says they will probably stop her from playing next year when she is 18. She will be a woman then and have to take on responsibilities.
"Now I'm young, I can play," she said. "Sometimes I get excited (about the thought of playing professionally) but then I think my mum won't let me, and my brother and I think I won't be allowed."
Cultural barriers
Shahid Saleh, a young British Muslim who has five sisters, explains how he does not like the idea of them playing games.
"I wouldn't want them to play sports," he said. "You're not allowed to uncover yourself like wearing tracksuit bottoms and all that, and play football or badminton, you have to cover yourself."
Cultural barriers remain in taking up a career in sport. Twelve-year-old Zahir Ahmed says that his parents encourage him to study hard rather than to waste time playing.
Although he does reckon his father would want him to become a famous tennis player as there is a lot of money in it.
Meanwhile, Sport England is working to try to get more Muslim women doing sport.
It is funding projects which target these groups and put on exclusive women-only activities which allow women wearing the full hijab and covered up to still take part.

£350,000 trips to boost the image of British Muslims

Taxpayers are funding a £350,000 globetrotting tour that is intended to improve the "image of British Muslims" around the world.
The Foreign Office has dispatched parties of up to eight Muslims as far afield as Indonesia, Nigeria and Pakistan, so they can "share their experiences" with locals.
The groups have been staying in exclusive hotels and even flown business class on some legs, with all accommodation and travel expenses met from the public purse.
advertisement
Officials claim that the visits – to 18 countries including 12 Islamic nations such as Morocco, Egypt and Bahrain – have helped to promote a positive image of what life is like for Muslims in Britain.
However, some of the trips appear to have backfired, with participants using them as a platform to criticise Britain and its government.
On a visit to Bangladesh, one of the travelling party claimed at a press conference that British employers are prejudiced against Muslims and are more likely to offer jobs to Hindus. On a trip to Singapore, a tour party member told journalists that British Muslims were "suspicious" of the British Government.
During the trips, the visitors have met prominent radicals. In Sudan, they held talks with Hassan al-Turabi, the veteran Islamist who sheltered Osama bin Laden in the 1990s. In the Middle East they met Yusuf al-Qaradawi, the preacher who has defended Palestinian suicide bombers.
Critics claimed that the -programme of visits, called Projecting British Muslims, are a waste of taxpayers' money.
Ben Wallace, Conservative MP for Lancaster and Wyre, who uncovered the cost using Parliamentary questions, said: "I'm not sure how sending British Muslims abroad to other Islamic countries helps to counter the jihadi movement at home. I can't see that this is anything more than a jolly for a lot of people.
"It should not be forgotten that Britain has an appalling record of exporting jihadi fighters to other countries, not the other way around."
The initiative was suggested by a Muslim panel set up following the July 2005 London bombings. It was included as a proposal in Preventing Extremism Together, last year's government report on ways to tackle radicalisation among young British Muslims.
A Foreign Office spokesman said: "The idea is to promote British Muslims overseas, to try to get rid of the myth that British Muslims are oppressed, and to give Muslims in the UK the experience of how Muslims in other parts of the world live.
"We have had good feedback from both those who went on the visits, and from those countries they visited. A clearer picture of each -other's environment and opinion emerges, breaking often--misleading stereotypes."
One participant, Lutfur Ali, a London-based management consultant, said: "Having initially felt sceptical, I found the visits to be quite invaluable in debunking some of the myths people have of us.
"I think some of the young people who went on these delegations came back grateful they live in a country that gives them the freedom to do a greater number of things."
Sir Iqbal Sacranie, former secretary-general of the Muslim Council of Britain, led a six-member delegation to Pakistan in June. Sadiq Khan, the Labour MP, led a group that visited Malaysia and -Singapore in July.
Each delegation includes between four and eight British Muslims, including women and young people. Since the first visit in late 2005, they have gone to Bahrain, Qatar, Sudan, Egypt, Nigeria, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Morocco, Algeria, Bosnia, Spain, Germany, France and Holland. The next trip will be to the United States.
More than 60 people have taken part. On the five-day Middle East trip, the party flew business class on long-haul legs. In Algeria, there were complaints from group members that their minibus was not air-conditioned.
The visits are funded under a Foreign Office programme called Engaging with the Islamic World Group, which has an £8.5 million annual budget and a staff of 26.
In May, according to Bangladeshi media reports, a member of the British delegation claimed at a press conference in the capital, Dhaka, that if an equally-qualified Hindu and Muslim applied for the same job in Britain, then the Hindu would be three times more likely to land the job.

Muslim Violence Destroys France and England

We need to stop worrying about offending Muslims

forcing islam on kids.

A guide to Islam is being given to primary schools across Britain containing a headscarf, a prayer mat, a prayer cap, sacred Ihram clothing worn during the pilgrimage to Makkah, a poster of the Muslim prophets and a compass to locate the direction of Makkah.

According to Daily Express the teaching resource, provided by the Muslim Council of Britain, is intended to provide children aged seven and 11 with information about true Islamic beliefs.

The pack, described on Friday by one head teacher as a "three-foot by three-foot plastic box", also contains CDs, videos, children's books and pamphlets and model kits of a mosque and Islam's holiest site, the Ka'bah.

Sir Iqbal Sacranie, of the MCB, said: "We believe education is the key to creating a vibrant and understanding society.

"We want to ensure that every schoolchild has access to high quality Islamic resources in their schools." Colin Manning, head teacher of North Reddish Junior School in Stockport, which has only four Muslim pupils, said: "The future is in the hands of young people.

The better they understand each other, the more secure that future will be." Tahir Alam, education spokesman for the MCB, added: "We found that schools were using books that were not accurate about Muslim traditions and beliefs so we put this pack together.
"We now have over 800 schools using them."

I trust that Muslim students are issued a cross, a Bible, an icon of Jesus, and the like.

hook says.....

Britain starts to drop US term “war on terror”

Britain’s Foreign Office is urging government officials to stop using the US term "war on terror" amid concerns it angers British Muslims and undermines government aims, a weekly newspaper said on Sunday.
The government wants to "avoid reinforcing and giving succour to the terrorists’ narrative by using language that, taken out of context, could be counter-productive," a Foreign Office spokesman told The Observer.
The Foreign Office has sent the same message to cabinet ministers as well as diplomats and other government representatives around the world, according to the report.
"We tend to emphasize upholding shared values as a means to counter terrorists," the spokesman was quoted as saying.
Many British officials and experts, the weekly said, suspect that Islamist extremists find it easier to recruit followers when western governments speak of a war on terror, by suggesting it is actually a war against Islam.
Gary Hindle, terrorism expert at the Royal United Services Institute in London, hailed the decision to drop the term, though it was not clear whether it was being widely carried out.
"It’s about time," Hindle told The Observer. "Military terminology is completely counter-productive, merely contributing to isolating communities. This is a very positive move."
The White House began referring to the "war on terror" in the weeks after Al Qaeda attacked New York and Washington on September 11, 2001.
The government-backed British Muslim Forum meanwhile is teaching Muslims that dying while fighting for Britain’s armed forces is an act of martyrdom rather than one of a traitor, which extremists insist it is, it was reported.
In holding talks nationwide, The Sunday Times said, the group argues that a Muslim soldier in the British forces will be a martyr and a hero for Britain even if he dies fighting in Muslim countries like Afghanistan.

Rapist asylum seeker due damages

A failed asylum seeker convicted of raping a 13-year-old girl is to be awarded damages after a judge ruled he was unlawfully detained in prison.
The 31-year-old, known as "A" for legal reasons, was held for 20 months after serving his sentence while authorities tried to deport him to Somalia.
A High Court judge ruled his detention became unlawful because of its length, and he was entitled to compensation.
Human rights lawyers said he could get up to £50,000 from the Home Office.
'Misleading statements'
Mr Justice Calvert Smith, sitting in London, said the detention became unlawful because of its length, the impossibility of achieving removal and misleading statements for immigration officials.
He also said there had been a failure to consider releasing the man with an electronic tag, an option available since July 2005.
The judge said although "A" had been desperate to remain in the UK, that was not enough to displace the illegality of his detention.
He added that it was not necessary for the man to stay in the UK while damages were assessed.
But it is thought "A" may seek a further judicial review against attempts to deport him.
Media requests that the man should be identified given his criminal record were rejected.
The judge said naming him could hamper Home Office attempts to deport him.
"A" first arrived in the UK in May 1995.
He completed an eight-year prison sentence more than three years ago, for the rape of a young girl at knifepoint.

Blair tells "hate-mongers" to stay away

Britain does not want "hate-mongers" -- people coming to live in the country must conform to its tolerant values, Prime Minister Tony Blair said on Friday.
Insisting people living in the country had a duty to integrate, Blair said the government would take a series of measures to encourage immigrants and minorities to mix with British society.
Migration had been good for Britain and London's hospitality to many nationalities had made it perhaps the most popular capital city in the world, Blair said.
"But we protect this attitude by defending it," he added. "Our tolerance is part of what makes Britain Britain. So conform to it; or don't come here. We don't want the hate-mongers, whatever their race, religion or creed," he told an audience that included academics, students and Muslim leaders.
Immigrants wanting to live in Britain will have to pass an English test and ethnic or religious groups seeking government grants will have to show they promote integration, Blair said.
There was no question of Britain allowing the introduction of religious law, he said.
According to media reports, some minority groups have their own courts in Britain, ruling on divorce and disputes between neighbours and there is even reported to be an unofficial Somali court in London dealing with criminal matters.
"We must demand allegiance to the rule of law," Blair said.
To combat forced marriages, the government will consult on raising the age for people entering Britain to get married above the current minimum of 18, he said.
Britain is reassessing its attitude to racial and religious minorities following last year's bombings when four British Islamists blew up 52 people on London transport.
The government has cracked down on radical Islamic preachers who it says inspire suicide bombers. But it fears that growing segregation of ethnic minorities has made it easier for radical ideas to take hold.
Blair said there was no need to scrap multicultural Britain, in which different communities live side by side.
"On the contrary we should continue celebrating it. But we need -- in the face of the challenge to our values -- to reassert also the duty to integrate...," he said.
The Muslim Association of Britain said Mr Blair's speech was "alarming".
Conform to our society, says PM

Terror suspect on run, say police

An asylum seeker arrested by anti-terror police has gone on the run, officers have revealed.
Bakhtiar Mahmud Perwaiss, 28, who also uses the alias Berwis, vanished a month ago after he was released on bail.
He failed to hand himself into officers at Huddersfield Police Station in West Yorkshire, on 8 November and has not been seen since, police added.

Greater Manchester anti-terror squad officers in Pontefract, West Yorkshire, arrested him on 11 October.
Laundering offences
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "The police are keen to locate him and would ask that if any members of the public see him, they do not approach him, but call 999 immediately.
"There is nothing to suggest Perwaiss represents a danger to the public."
He was charged with money laundering offences after an alleged scam was uncovered to obtain cash in Yemen.
Perwaiss, originally from a Kurdish region of Iraq, is missing the ends of two fingers on his right hand - an injury he claimed to have received handling explosives in Iraq.
He has been living with his cousin at an address in Pontefract and is not thought to have any other family in the UK.
A police source reportedly said officers had "opposed Perwaiss being released on bail and were frustrated he had now absconded".
Ports, airports and Interpol have been alerted to Perwaiss' disappearance, police said.
He has been described as about 5ft 8in to 5ft 9in tall with a stocky build and stubble. His English is said to be poor.
Two other men, Omar Altimimi and Yusuf Abdullah, were also arrested and charged in connection with the investigation.
They are expected to stand trial next year.

Fanatics tell Muslim singer: We'll kill you

Deeyah is forced to hire bodyguards for UK tour after death threats from religious extremists

A Muslim pop singer has been forced to hire bodyguards to protect her during a visit to Britain next month after she received a string of death threats from religious extremists.
US-based Deeyah is due in London next month to promote a new single and video, released tomorrow. But the track "What Will It Be?" has already outraged hardline Islamists here as it promotes women's rights.
Her performances with a clutch of male dancers and revealing outfits have also deeply offended many Muslims. In one scene in her latest video, the singer drops a burqa covering her body to reveal a bikini.
That has attracted vitriol from some quarters. The 28-year-old singer claims that in the past she has been spat upon in the street and told that her family would be in danger if she did not tone down her work. The situation is now so bad that Deeyah feels she cannot visit Britain without protection. "I can no longer walk around without specially assigned bodyguards," she told The Independent on Sunday. "I would be lying if I said abuse from religious fanatics didn't upset or scare me."
Deeyah was originally a singer of classical Indian music and lived in the UK until just over a year ago. But she claims to have been shocked by the reaction to her shift to pop music accompanied by raunchy videos.
"I had no plan to court controversy or anger people in my community. I wanted to make people think and confront my own fears as a Muslim woman," she said. Soon, though, she was dubbed "the Muslim Madonna". And then came hate mail and abuse from extremists.
"I have been on the verge of a breakdown. Middle-aged men have spat at me in the street and I have had people phone me and tell me they were going to cut me up into pieces. I became this figure of hate simply because of what I do and wear."
Despite moving to Atlanta last year, a UK-based campaign against her has continued. Her website has been plagued by aggressive bloggers, and threatening calls pour in. Despite this, Deeyah, who was born in Norway of Iranian and Pakistani parentage, remains keen to return to Britain. "I miss London," she said, adding that she wanted to inspire British Muslim women.
"I receive letters and emails from women saying I am doing a good job. Putting my life at risk no longer bothers me. That so many women - Muslim women included - are abused by people in their own religion and communities does."
'Set up UK Sharia law districts'
Four in 10 British Muslims want Sharia law introduced in parts of the UK, a poll of 500 Muslims revealed last night. One in five also expressed sympathy with the "feelings and motives" of the 7 July suicide bombers.
But the survey, carried out by ICM in the wake of Muslim protests around the world over cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohamed, showed that 91 per cent of Muslims in this country feel "loyal" to Britain. Just 1 per cent or, according to the sample, five people approved of the suicide attacks in London that killed 52 people.
Sharia law, which is practised in large parts of the Middle East, specifies stonings and amputations as routine punishments. Religious police are responsible for bringing suspects before special courts.
Sharia should be introduced in "predominantly Muslim" areas of Britain, according to 40 per cent of those polled; 41 per cent opposed the move.
Sadiq Khan, the Labour MP for Tooting, who was appointed to the Government's Muslim taskforce in the wake of the 7 July attacks, said the findings were " alarming".

KILL THE QUEEN KIDS!

PEOPLE INVESTIGATION Extremists' shock online rants as they groom young Cyber mosque fanatics tell Muslim children she's enemy of Allah
By Daniel Jones

BRITISH Muslims as young as 12 are being urged to attack the QUEEN.
They hear hate-fuelled rants of banned Islamic fanatics like Omar Bakri Muhammad in an internet "mosque".
People investigators listened as a British-born follower of exiled Bakri spouted a shocking online sermon branding Her Majesty "a vile woman and enemy of Islam."
The fanatic, whose identity is known by The People, added: "We declare animosity towards her."
British Muslim kids who log on to the cyber mosque and other sinister websites can also:
WATCH a cartoon of a Muslim child being shot by Western soldiers and then going to paradise.
CHAT online with extremists barred from conventional mosques.
LISTEN to the fanatics urging them to hate non-Muslims, Jews and Westerners.
PLAY a sick video game in which they shoot Tony Blair.
Conservative homeland security spokesman Patrick Mercer said: "These remarks about the Queen are deeply insulting to the Royal Family and to the rest of Britain. It also verges on being treason."
The chilling call to attack Her Majesty was made by a fanatic using the pseudonym Abu Baraa on the web.
For legal reasons The People is not publishing his identity.
Baraa's rant came after he was asked: "What are the guidelines on the British Royal Family in the way we should deal with them?"
The fanatic replied: "The British Royal Family are enemies of Conservative Islam and Muslims. They are enemies of Allah.
"There is no war or no law that is passed in this country without the Queen herself.
"She is part and parcel of the war against Islam so no Muslim should have allegiance to the Queen, to the enemy of Allah, or to have any love for her or any allegiance to her or any support for her.
"She is a vile woman and she is the enemy of Islam. We should see her as enemy. We hate her."
Referring to Muslim Jihadist fighters, he said: "There is no problem for them to target her or to treat her as a complete enemy."
MI5 boss Dame Eliza Manningham- Buller and Home Secretary John Reid have warned that young British Muslims are being groomed for terrorism.
Youngsters can email questions to fanatics in the UK like Baraa and in countries like Lebanon where Omar Bakri is holed up.
A security expert said: "These people are brainwashing young British Muslims."
An associate of Bakri said: "Talks by him in no way encourage Muslims in Britain to carry out any action."

Ridiculous Xmas ban

THE Red Cross banned Christmas and ordered staff to remove decorations from its 430 charity shops so as not to offend Muslims.
The charity said showing an allegiance to one faith "might compromise our ability to work in conflict situations around the world".

Child rapist asylum seeker wants compensation for 'unreasonable' detention

A "high risk" convicted child rapist detained for years pending deportation applied to the High Court today to be set free immediately.
Failed asylum seeker "A", who cannot be named for legal reasons, also sought damages on the grounds that his lengthy period in detention has long been "unreasonable and unlawful".
The Somali national completed his eight-year prison sentence for the rape of a 13-year-old girl more than three years ago, but continues to be detained under immigration laws as the Government attempts to arrange for his removal back to Somalia.
The 30-year-old arrived in the UK in May 1995 and was convicted three years later. The court heard the Home Office takes the view he will now soon be removed. There was also a high risk of him absconding if released into the community, and that he would be a danger to the public if he did abscond.
Probation reports put before the High Court said A continued to deny the rape offence, failed to show remorse and posed "a high risk" of sexual reoffending and a "medium" risk of using violent behaviour if set free.
But today a QC representing A said he was legally entitled to be set free. Richard Drabble QC said A had been held "for a period unprecedented in the UK" under 1971 Immigration Act powers only intended to apply when deportation was "imminent".
Mr Drabble said: "Despite a very recent flurry of activity, the secretary of state cannot sensibly be alleging that his removal is imminent. "We say, in those circumstances, your lordship should order his immediate release, subject to whatever conditions are appropriate."
Mr Drabble submitted to Mr Justice Calvert Smith that A had been detained at least three years and three months since what would otherwise have been his release date after completing his prison sentence.
The period of unlawful detention might also be longer as there was a dispute over whether A should have been released on parole some four-and-a-half years ago.
Under the immigration rules, he could only be held for a "reasonable period" to facilitate his removal, but he had now been detained "way past a reasonable period".
Nigel Giffin QC, appearing for the Home Secretary, argued that the application should be rejected as A's detention did not amount to "an unreasonable exercise of power".
The Somali national was being properly detained until he could be removed to Somalia. Mr Giffin said an important feature of the case was that A could long ago have brought his detention to an end if he had been willing to return to Somalia voluntarily.
The then Home Secretary decided to make a deportation order in May 2002, but A claimed removal would be contrary to his rights under the European Convention on Human Rights.
His appeals against both the deportation order and the refusal of his application for asylum were not finally exhausted until September 2005. Compulsory removals to Somalia had not been possible in the recent past because of the absence of airlines willing to undertake such operations.
But the Home Secretary had never given up his attempts and the position had now changed. Removal directions for A were set for last November, but did not take place following the application A made for judicial review which was now before the court.
Mr Drabble rejected the suggestion that A had become "his own jailer" and could have returned to Somalia voluntarily. He said: "That is a hopelessly unrealistic allegation. Somalia has been a country in a state of dangerous chaos throughout this period."
He also questioned whether the Home Office was even now capable of enforcing A's removal in the near future.
